Hello,
I just encountered "Memphis Blues" quite by accident by running an Internet search. Laughed for a long time. You see, I just escaped BACK to Chicago three weeks ago after having lived in Memphis for three very long years. My sanity is coming back piece by piece.
Anyway, loved it. Thanks for the entertainment. If you are not out of there by now.......May the Gods be with you.
Respectfully yours,

Hello from Denmark, Kansas...just was told about your website having pictures of Hanston Kansas on them...and since I grew up there, I was wondering your connections.
My family, the Lupfers farm about three miles to the west of Hanston. My dad went to high school in Jetmore, but all my siblings and I went to Hanston. However, my youngest brother's son, who is a senior this year, will be in the last graduating class there.
If you are interested in the Mudge RanchB, I have an article in the Kansas Historical Society magazine from a few years back that I could copy for you . . . my grandfather's old girlfriend Maggie Caldwell wrote the story. Thanks for putting some Hanston pictures up on the web.

I lived in Jetmore until I was 7. I went back this year and enjoyed seeing the stone fence posts. Are you from that area?

We expressed our frustration over the slow governmental response to Hurricane Katrina in hopes of eliciting responses of varying flavors from our readers; but alas, the results were underwhelming in terms of numbers. Click comments ( * ) below to read those we did receive.

Many readers have voiced an interest in our Living Playa Arrangement and Teaching Aid. While we are anxious to please our readers, we are a non-profit website and have difficulty providing the kits at a cost that is reasonable for the buyer without experiencing expense overruns in the accumulation and development of the materials.
We recommend that readers who are able to develop their own Living Playa Arrangement simply buy a good shell reference and collect their own shells during subsequent visits to the beach. In doing so you will acquire all of the conservation insight we are trying to disseminate and more. Feel free to use our ideas and copy our Living Playa web page as you wish, or change the style to suit your own imagination. If you would like an MS Word version of the page to use as a starting point, please drop us a line. Click the Subject link to review and evaluate our kit. Our Bibliography may contain additional useful references.
For those who cannot do their own collecting, we will endeavor to keep the kits available as long as there is an interest. The most economical way to order is in larger numbers, as the materials are accumulated and assembled independently for each order; teachers can experience substantial savings by ordering in this manner. For a quote, please drop us a line at our Living Playa email address, or click here.
Thank you for your continued interest in the Cortez Chronicles and related websites.
Sincerely,
L. Fox,

Hello,
My husband Oscar and I bought the old Hernando's Hideaway night club in Jan. 2005.
We only open on Friday and Sat. night until July 1st.
Alot of people in Memphis don't realize the Hideaway is still open. We plan to do alot of things with it but advertising is sooo expensive. Maybe we can squeez it in our budget in July.
Just wanted to let you know we ARE OPEN.
Thank you,
Stephanie

. . . it is late, I couldn't sleep so I visited your web site to dream. I write to you to say, "thanks" I've enjoyed your stories very much. When I visit Mexico, I too am looking for much in the same. Although these stories are written with a lean on the rod, all the same elements are there. You see, these are written for a fly fishing site that I have made. The personal stories are mine not to share with those people, when I do start to write them, I would be sharing them with you.
I have varied interests as a native Phoenician.
Goto: http://www.adamtrahan.com to see for yourself.
Anyway, I'm just writing to say, "thanks again" and I really really appreciate it. I've been reading Bill Valentine's book since it came out, it's dandy and I enjoy that sort of thing. I've been down to Kino but mostly to the beaches and estuaries around Puerto Penasco. In my youth, I explored the Pacific coast of upper Baja on surf patrol. As a fisher and kite surfer as well as an adventurist, unfortunately for you, I am headed toward your areas. I promise not to bother you if we cross paths. I'll be the one with the huge kites or fishing at the edge.
All the best to you and here are my stories since I owe you for the good reading of yours. I'm tired now, good night.

I don't know how I happened upon your web-diary but I couldn't believe my eyes. How is your wife's ankle? I'm a 32 (31 at the time), stay-at-home mom of a 3 year old. On January 14, 2005 we had a lot of ice on the ground here in Iowa. I was putting ice melt onto the driveway of our elderly neighbors. I came back to get the second bag of ice melt when I fell and broke my ankle in almost the exact way your wife broke hers! I saw the x-ray that you had posted and had to pull out mine to make sure that wasn't my own x-ray!
Well, I got my cast off . . .

Hi,
I've enjoyed reading your stories! I have been visiting the area around Desenboque for a few years and have always wondered if you could take the beach south from there to Puerto Lobos. If I understand your story regarding, I would take the road east off of the paved Why to Desenboque road labeled Barra Tanque. Continue on this until a fork with a sign again reading Barra Tanque. Do you know how the path is from there to Puerto Lobos? I usually go down with several friend who live in Puerto Penasco and we all have either 4wd or buggies. We are going to drive form Puerto Penasco to El Golfo (a trip we've done twice a year for the last 8 years) this coming May 24th and we'd like to try the Puerto Lobos run after returning form El Golfo sometime around May 28th. I would appreciate any info.

Ed. Note: Great suggestion! Go to http://maps.google.com, click [Satellite] in the upper right-hand corner of the picture, drag the Desemboque area to the center of the map and begin alternately magnifying the view and dragging the picture until you've found what you want. Google Maps requires IE 6.0 or other state-of-the-art browser.

What a treat for me as I was "googling" today and came up with the great pictures from Grandpa Koontz'/Uncle Loren's farm. It has been awhile since I have been there but it has not changed much since I was so it brought back some great memories for me. Thanks for putting that together for all to enjoy.
I hope that the cousins can keep the Koontz reunion going. It seems to get harder and harder to do as we lose the Aunts and Uncles and those that really did a lot to pull it together.
Thanks for the great memories and a bright spot to my day. Take care!
Your cousin

We are off to Yankton for 3 days to our family reunion, will be nice to be by the water. I came a different way home [last time we traveled], and saw some of the most beautiful part of S.D. that I never knew existed. south of Mitchell on 44 all the way across from Valentine. Whow!!! I want to move there. The river was to die for.
Eve, I want to tell you how much it meant to spend some one on one with your husband [when he was in S.D.], even though you were missed; but I truly think he has the kindest heart I have ever known in my life. He made me aware that I need to soften mine a whole lot, and I thank him for that. He always was and is very special to us.
Got to run,
Dar and Sam

Hi -- About a million years ago, 1976 (I think) I drove down the Baja peninsula. We went to Millers Landing which we found by following directions in a rockhounding magazine. I have long since lost the directions and the magazine. We've been back to Baja several times since and have wanted to find our way back to Millers Landing but have not been able to find it. Since you have pictures taken there, I assume you know where it is. We're planning to get back to Baja this summer and would like to get to Millers Landing. Could you please tell me how to get there?
Thank you and have a great day.

During all the posturing and rhetoric surrounding the gay marriage issue, there has been very little to explain WHY this should even be an issue of LAW rather than a social contract or religious commitment. Given some thought, the only real reason the government is involved at all is for TAX purposes. Federal and State laws, regarding marriage, provide certain tax incentives, both in the form of income tax reductions as well as advantages in other, non-income related, taxes. Thus, providing credence to gay marriages could drastically reduce our governments' yearly tax income by a decent percentage.
I suspect that replacing our current income tax system of varying rate schedules with a single flat-tax schedule would, in a large degree, make the question of LEGAL marriage all but disappear, placing it back into the social and religious context from which it originated.
